Last night I spent a considerable amount of time looking at our app, the user experience, the screens, the flow of information, etc. There are obviously areas to improve and I'd love to be able to snap my fingers to gain access to hundreds of thousands of users, but I was very happy in the progress we made. Our web and iPhone app are both simple and intuitive which is what I wanted for the beginning. So tons of more success to be had but it's a good start!

It seems to be that one of the most widely used features of CmomGo's iPhone app is the creation of activities. It's a nice user experience (Bias) and we recently added a feature based on a request from the moms that folks cannot reply to an activity with a message until they set their RSVP status. Here is a 55 second video in which I show you how easy this feature is to use. If you have a group that has a lot of events or activities and the count of who's coming and who isn't is a must... CmomGo could be for you!

The Room Moms are Creating Communities

Over 40% of our active circles are for the class room. This could be that either the room mom has organized the circle or the teacher has. What is cool about this is that moms are truly creating a private social community amongst people that they know. What this does show is that privacy in the school is still very important. Our data also shows that they are sharing a lot of photos privately. Our data shows this and a while back when our up-loader wasn't working correctly I heard from many of the moms! I'd still like to see more Photos uploaded from the teacher with the iPhone, but we will get there!

Once in a while we like to look at data beind our app. Here a few interesting numbers that I thought I would share on a few of our users circles!

-80 activities scheduled for a 30 person PTO in 7 months!
-300 pieces of content for a 10 member playgroup in 5 months!
-350 pieces of content for a 20 user girl scout troop!
-50 activities for a 20 person playgroup

Pretty cool just to see how folks use it!

Every mom can use CmomGo.com for one group in their life – we call them “circles“! Whether that is the group from church, the kid’s soccer team, the kindergarten class, or the neighborhood playgroup. Think about the kindergarten teacher taking pictures of the kids from their iPhone and then automatically uploading a new gallery for all of the moms to see. The moms will be notified in real time that a new gallery has been posted and they all can comment, either from their iPhones or from the web app. What’s cool is that this creates community among the moms from the class with the teacher! Everything is secure so only the moms invited to the circle can see and access the circle! It’s also great for the room moms to plan the parties throughout the year… with a private Evite like functionality for the moms in the circle! We also hide email addresses which is a common request from the schools. So if the teacher invites the moms, only the teacher can see the mom’s email addresses – not the other moms!

The private Evite like functionality is also great for the soccer teams! So how about that team mom that is always messing with the reply all emails for who’s coming to the game, who’s bringing the snacks this week, etc. The team mom and other parents can coordinate all of this within their CmomGo circle. CmomGo is super simple… you create your private circle in 30 seconds and invite the moms. From there you can Plan, Coordinate & Share Privately with that circle. The web app is free and the iPhone app is $1.99. You can create the circle directly from your iPhone, but you need the mom’s email addresses in your iPhone contacts – probably easier to create the circle from the web although we will make that easier on the iPhone in the future! Wow - Private Photo Galleries are growing

Now we just need a few hundred thousand more moms! Like most companies we have lots of data that we slice and dice and review month to month, but one number caught our eye last month... the number of galleries created grew 16% month over month which we are rather excited about! This can be everything from photos being shared with the football team moms or the teacher posting pictures from the recent halloween party! With our iPhone app it is really easy to both post a gallery to a circle as well as add photos to a gallery that already exist!

Why CmomGo For Room Moms?

It's common practice that schools and teachers can't share email addresses of one parent to another parent, etc. We follow that practice in that if a teacher or the room mom were to create a circle and invite the parents, they cannot see the email addresses of the other circle members. Only the teacher or room mom that created the circle can see those email addresses. When we first launched CmomGo that was a common request from several of the schools.

It's pretty cool to have the teachers post pictures throughout the week to the circle so that the parents can see what the little ones are up to - why wait until the end of the school year to see those pictures! With our iPhone app this is even easier now. I also thought it was great when I heard the moms from a last year preschool class were creating a gallery together in which they each posted a picture of the little ones going to kindergarten... so even though the kids all went to different schools the moms and the kids are staying connected and catching up for play dates and breakfast once in a while.

Wow - what a long run. Well our app is finally available. See the press release below. The most interesting part of this process was simply how much we learned. I think everyone involved underestimated how much effort it would be to actually deliver on this. As with everything in this journey... twice as long and three times as much money!
